The Selfie Art Photobooth at the RCA2023 degree show at Truman Brewery from 13 July to 16 July. This is an interactive activation that playfully explores participants’ experiences as consumers of art and users of social media.
The project offers an opportunity for physical participation in a virtual photobooth, with subsequent posting and reposting of the resulting portraits on social media as part of an exclusive community of those who have received the ‘blessing of the booth’.
I am armed with a giant aubergine emoji on a stick (just because: the jester’s pig’s bladder de nos jours), and the booth is equipped with a range of custom-made, hand-painted, witty cardboard signs and other props to enhance participants’ selfies to comic - and poignant - effect. Photos taken in the booth are shared online on social media during the project and reshared by participants.
